Import assets (substations, line routes, parcels) or site boundaries from a Google Earth file into PVcase Prospect.
Introduction
There are two ways to import assets into your project:
To begin this process, you must download the KMZ/KML file to your computer. If the file is currently open in Google Earth, export it; otherwise, download the file if it was saved as an email attachment.
From the Project map
This process consists of three main stages:
- Drag and drop KML/KMZ onto map
- Select data from file to import as assets
- Configure data import in the Import wizard
The steps you need to follow at each stage is outlined below.
Drag and drop KML/KMZ onto map
- Find the KML/KMZ file in your computer's file directory ( e.g. Downloads) or on your desktop.
- Click on the file name in the file directory or on the file on your desktop and then drag and drop the file over the map (map will be slightly grayed out as you drag the file onto the map).
Select data from file to import as assets
- Pick one feature type to import at a time (point, line, polygon).
Once the file has loaded in, a table will pop up from the bottom of the screen.
- Select assets to import
- All: Mark the checkbox in the header row of the table.
- Subset: Apply a filter and select filtered results or mark the checkbox next to each asset
- Once you have selected the assets, click Add to Project. To copy data to the project map, click Copy instead.
This will bring up a short import wizard to finish help you finish importing the data.
Import Wizard
To complete the data import configuration, use the pop-up modal to continue through each step.
Step 1: Asset Mapping
In the original file, what does the specified geometry relate to? In the example below, polygons in the KML file represent land/parcel boundaries.
Step 2 (Optional): Data Field Mapping
Map attribute fields from the original file to the equivalent field in PVcase Prospect.
If you skip this step, we'll still name the assets based on the asset name in the original file and all other data will be saved in the Notes/Description field.
Step 3: Save Assets to Project
- Click Save & Proceed to complete the import
- Confirm that the assets have loaded properly
From the Add Grid sidebar
You can also add substations or lines right in the Add Grid sidebar. Learn how in Add grid from layer.
