Use predictive flood mapping in Buildable aea analysis to automatically exclude flood-prone zones from your project area. Predictive flood mapping is available as layers in the layer catalog and also as layers in the Buildable area analysis.
Overview
If you have purchased Predictive flood mapping, you can analyze the data using the Buildable area analysis.
The Predictive flood mapping in Buildable area analysis uses the 0-year layers, which are the layers that model the predicted flood zones for the current year. The 0-year layers and additional layers representing the 30-year future outlook are available in the Layer catalog.
Read more here about our Predictive flood mapping and how to purchase it.
The following steps detail the application of Predictive flood mapping within the Buildable area analysis.
Steps
- In the Buildable area analysis form, click the Predictive Flood tab at the top of the form.
- Enable the Predictive Flood Mapping - 100 Year and/or Predictive Flood Mapping- 500 Year layers
- Set the desired Analysis type for each of 100-year and 500-year flood areas
-
(Optional) Input a Max Flood Depth for either the 100-year and/or 500-year flood risk areas
If you leave the Max Flood Depth empty or use the default value of 0, the analysis will identify all locations within the flood risk area (some of which might have minimal flood water depth).
- (Optional) Input Setback, if desired.
To save time, save a template with your desired Predictive Flood settings within the Buildable Area form for future use.
Once the analysis has finished, the map displays drawings for Exclusions, Intersections, or Overlay Only, depending on how you configured the Analysis type.
- Click a drawing to read more about it. The drawing popup on the constraint map shows flood water depth in centimeters (not feet) as that is what the source is calculated in (even if you input the values originally in feet on the form).
- In the popup, the max_flood_depth field shows the deepest flood water depth on the whole parcel (e.g. the deepest part of the 500 year flood area on this parcel was 706 cm flood depth)
In the image bleow, the 500-year flood area is analyzed using Overlay Only. The drawing for the 500-year flood area appears on the map but does not affect the buildable area.
Catalog layers
In addition to using Buildable area analysis with the Predictive flood mapping, you can also view the source layers overlaid on the map.
Once the layer is activated on the map, click anywhere in the flood area to see expected max flood depth at that location (the layer unit is in centimeters).
The Layer catalog includes both the 0-year layers, which map the flood zones modeled for the current year, and the 30-year layers, which map the flood zones modeled for the year 30 years into the future. The Buildable area analysis uses the 0-year layers only.
