Use the Intersection of geometry workflow to combine features from a layer with a custom polygon.
Intersection of geometry with custom polygons: a practical example
This example targets parcels in Illinois with capacity in a census tract with coal closures.
- Toggle on the desired layer. In this case Ameren Hosting Capacity Map.
- Using Map Tools, create your polygon.
- Toggle on the next layer (e.g. Coal Closure, LMI Tracts, etc.)
- Click on the desired feature from the layer and click Copy.
- Use a multi-select click to select the user polygon and copied element. Hold down CTRL key (Mac: Command key) while clicking each copied feature with cursor to select it in the map sidebar. The selected items will populate in the Map Selection box.
- From there, click Design > Create Intersection of geometry.
This is what the area of overlap will look like:
- (OPTIONAL) Delete User Polygon and Copied Element for a cleaner map view as shown above.
- To conduct a parcel search, click on the Intersect Geometry polygon. In the pop up box, click See Actions > Find Parcels within Polygon. If you already have parcels on the project, you can bulk delete the parcels that don't fit in the intersection.
