Combine features from multiple layers or a subset of data from a single layer to create a targeted search area.
What can you do with a union of geometry?
- Conduct a parcel search
- Run a Prescan
- Create your own custom layers
You can use the same layer or combine features from multiple layers to create unions of geometry.
This workflow is compatible with layers that are polygon or polyline features. Point and line layers are excluded.
Create unions of geometry
- Toggle on the desired layer(s); in this example, Coal Closures.
- Use the Select by Polygon tool to copy features from this layer in bulk or copy feature by feature.
- Repeat for additional layers if that is your use case.
- Select the copied features you'd like to combine. Use one of the two methods below:
- Method 1 – Map Tools > Select by Polygon > Saved Assets & Drawings to draw a polygon around the copied features you'd like to combine.
- Method 2 – Use a multi-select click to select each of the copied features. Hold down CTRL (Windows) or CMD (Mac) key while clicking each copied feature with cursor to select it in the map sidebar. The selected items will populate in the Map Selection box.
- In the Map Selection box, click Design and then Create union of geometry.
- (OPTIONAL) Delete copied elements for a cleaner map view. To do so, click on each "copied element" and click the trashcan icon.
Next Steps
- Conduct a parcel search or Prescan. Click on the newly created feature, Union Geometry. In the pop up box click on See Actions to access parcel search and prescan.
If this union is useful to reference as a layer in the future, export the project and reimport as a custom layer.
